Slow Cooker Tex Mex Sloppy Joes

Growing up I hated Sloppy Joe's. I wouldn't touch them. As I got older a friend of mine once made some for a football party and I decided to give it a try and the Sloppy Joe was so good! Right then and there my Sloppy Joe phobia ended. I knew I would love these Tex Mex Sloppy Joes because I love anything spicy. And wow, was it ever!

Slow Cooker Tex Mex Sloppy Joes
Serves 6
WW PP=8
Cal 339, Fat 8.1g, Carbs 36g, Fiber 2g, Protein 28.6g

Ingredients
20 oz lean ground sirloin (I used ground turkey)
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 chipotle chilies in adobe, chopped
1 can chopped green chilies
1 15oz can tomato sauce
1/2 cup beef broth (I used fat free)
1 tbsp. BBQ Sauce
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp Mrs. Dash Southwest Chipotle Seasoning
1 tsp oregano
1 cup shredded cheese (I used reduced fat sharp white cheddar)
1 jalapeno pepper, sliced
Bakery buns or rolls (I used whole wheat buns)

In a large skillet, on medium-low heat, while stirring occasionally, cook the meat until browned, about 10 minutes. Transfer meat to the slow cooker. Add remaining ingredients except for the cheese. Stir well. Cover and cook on low 4-6 hours. Serve on warm buns with shredded cheese, and sliced jalapeno. Enjoy!

  1. My son doesn't like sloppy joes, but he does like spicy food. I bet the chipotles in this would change his mind. :)

  2. I love Sloppy Joes, and I'm always looking for different ways to prepare them. Couldn't help but notice that they only have 339 calories each. That's diet friendly! Thank you for including the recipe at Foodie Friday!
